New computer parts15 viewsLast July, I decided to build a new computer as my old one was just too loud and I would have to redo much of the system to quiet it down. I threw the stuffed bear in there as well because the pictures of my first build had it as well :P. I'll get around to uploading those as well soon.

Ready to run13 viewsAll assembled and ready to go :). It would turn on but not POST, because I forgot to plug in the floppy power connector into the motherboard. Once I did that, everything ran fine.

About halfway done with installation18 viewsJust waiting on the video card, hard drive, DVD drives, and power.

|

The PSU11 viewsIt's large, heavy, powerful, and quiet. It's just barely too weak to use SLi on though :(.

|

Empty case14 viewsI decided on a silver Thermaltake Tsunami w/o window because it had dual 120mm fans. A main goal for this system was quiet performance, which it does quite well :).

Bare motherboard12 viewsDFI LAN Party nForce4 Ultra-D: Fast, lots of tweaking options and features, not for the beginner. Can be hard to get stable, can have reliability issues. I'm currently on my third one; the first one had dead onboard NICs and a bad fan (which kind of messed up the chipset), and the second one had BIOS/POST issues.

CPU and DVD-ROM12 viewsThe CPU is fast but didn't overclock as well as I had hoped. The DVD-ROM sucks though. It almost never spins close to full speed, even with pressed discs. I hope to replace it sometime soon, perhaps with a LiteOn. The ones I've used seem to read at full speed...

PSU/XP/mouse and pad14 viewsYes, I actually buy copies of Windows :P. The mouse is pretty good but the mouse pad seems to wear out the mouse's Teflon pads quickly and makes it drag if the slightest bit of crap or whatever gets on it. I'll eventually swap it out with a cloth pad. The PSU (500w Fortron Blue Storm) is excellent; if you haven't tried a Fortron before, do so :).

|

Zalman HSF and video card14 viewsThe Zalman CNPS-7700 is really big, as shown in the picture :P. It cools really well though. I can shut off the fan with the CPU at full load for 20+ minutes and it won't overheat. I got the 7800 about three weeks after its launch so it wasn't cheap. It was definitely worth it though.

A64 up close15 viewsIt's a 3700+ San Diego, CABHE stepping, made on week 18 (late April/early May) of 2005.

New heatsink with fan17 viewsIt just isn't complete without a fan if you're overclocking! :P So I taped on a 50mm fan from an old Celeron 300A I had laying around. The heatsink was originally passively cooled, hence why it's taped on. I put it on about a year ago and the original tape is still holding well :).

HSF again14 viewsSelf explanatory I would think.
