Backplane18 viewsFrom left to right: external SCSI (my Zip drive uses it), keyboard mini-DIN port, 10 Mbps Ethernet, printer port, external modem port, Apple monitor connector, RJ-11 port punchout for a modem card (if it did have one), and sound. The sound and modem ports are on a weird all-in-one card that has a slot for a modem on it (acts like a riser card I suppose), back panel audio, front panel audio and controls, and the monitor.

The front of my first Macintosh27 viewsIt's an all-in-one beige G3 from 1998. I got it for free from my high school as they were about to toss it. Everything on it seems to be in working order.

The ROM stick20 viewsThe system's ROM is stored on that. I guess you can upgrade them or something?

Front of everything15 viewsThe motherboard, CD-ROM/floppy/internal ZIP (if equipped), HD, etc. are all mounted on a giant carriage that slides out of the back of the computer. Maybe someday I'll slap in a DVD-ROM or burner.

CPU heatsink13 viewsFor some reason, the heatsink is grounded with an attached screw and wire. It's small and all-aluminum. Back in the day, G3's were equal or faster than P2's, while using about 60% less power. Less power=less heat generated.

Teh CPU!14 viewsThing is damn tiny. The chips off to the right are 256k SRAM chips for the L2 cache. Perhaps some day I'll take a better picture.

Chipset13 viewsThe chipset, with the SCSI controller to the left. It doesn't require a heatsink yet it's bare-die. I suppose I could try putting a small video RAM heatsink on it...

And it's off!14 viewsRunning the StarCraft demo quite well :). It also runs Quake 1 and Bryce 4 (raytracing program). Once I get OS 8.6 or above installed, it'll run Diablo II.

Rainbow17 viewsI'm guessing the weird colors are from years of use and heat. It looked neat so I took a picture of it.

The right part of the motherboard21 viewsThis was one of the first Macs, if not the first one, to move away from NuBus slots to PCI. The big brown slot is for the weird AIO card. The red jumper block to the right is used to control the multiplier/FSB. Above the brown slot is a SO-DIMM slot for video RAM upgrades, and above that is the ROM slot. The RAM is the topmost part.

The hard drive21 views4 GB Quantum Fireball. The first Quantum drive I've owned. Works great.

Monitor connector16 viewsA crappy picture of the monitor's video connector, complete with a ferrite core thingy to get rid of nasty EMI. Blurry pictures make everything more fun :P.
