The bottom of the old chipset heatsink37 viewsThe fan on it died so I had to replace it. It also cools inefficiently. The new one keeps the chipset cooler than the old one did, and that was with the fan on the new one shut off!

Chipset after modification74 viewsA nice layer of Arctic Silver Ceramique and the two bridges connected with graphite from an ordinary pencil. Never have had a problem with it :).

It's quite shiny37 viewsThe new heatsink's surface reflecting a MSN window on my monitor. The surface was pretty much perfectly polished, which helps with heat transfer.

Glowing LEDs45 viewsChipset picture with no flash.

And for the grand finale...50 views...the SLi mod worked! ^__^ Now I just have to get a more powerful PSU and another 7800 GTX then I'm all set.

Yay, it works!61 viewsThe faster the fan spins, the brighter the LEDs get. It maxes out at about 6,000 RPM.

Testing the chip contact56 viewsMaking sure the chip is touching the HSF properly, after all, the last thing I want is a toasted chipset. My dad had to grind the mounting holes out a bit so the heatsink's prong thingies would go into the mounting holes. Also had to grind out some of the edge of the heatsink to fit around a capacitor and crystal.

Everything is ready to go76 viewsGot the heatsink mounted okay and the fan plugged in. Now let's see what it can do!

Top of the old heatsink51 viewsMan this thing sucks. Hopefully DFI will begin to use better HSF's in the future.

The nForce4 Ultra before modification59 viewsI figured that since I was replacing the heatsink, I might as well modify the chipset to support SLi. You just cut through the epoxy on the right side bridge and connect the bridges using conductive paint or graphite.

The Newegg/Lik-Sang shipment.67 viewsOrdered the chipset fan, and the crappy Linksys BEFSR41 router from Newegg. Incidentally, the S-Video cable I ordered for my Dreamcast from Lik-Sang came at the same time.
