Getting started32 viewsGetting the CPU heatsink (Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme) installed, which was a huge pain in the ass.

Putting the motherboard in36 viewsA big case makes putting a motherboard in much easier :).

Wiring it up32 viewsLots of wires and crap to hook up. The 8-pin EPS power cable wasn't long enough to go on the right side of the motherboard, so I had to route it around the back of the expansion slots and tie it off to the chipset/MOSFET heatpipe.

Radeon 4870 without heatsink35 viewsApplying Ceramique paste before putting on the Zalman VF-1000.

Radeon with new heatsink29 viewsIt keeps the card at around 70-72 C overclocked.

Ready to go38 viewsEverything's installed and ready to go.

ZOMG IT WORKS!!130 viewsWoot, nothing went up in smoke on its first power up.

More info please31 viewsI prefer to see the nitty gritty during POST rather than a splash screen.

The case33 viewsI reused the case (Cooler Master Stacker 810) from my previous Opteron build. It worked well for watercooling but I decided to go back to air with this build.

Dual fans40 viewsI put a second Noctua on the CPU heatsink to aid in overclocking. I used four zip ties to hold the back fan onto the front, it seems to be working quite well so far. I also put two CD spindle plastic washers between the heatsink block and the bracket to clamp down harder on the CPU.

3.7 stable45 viewsIt took me a few days but I finally got to 3.7 GHz stable with the RAM running as close to DDR3-1600 speeds as I could. I might try for 3.8 sometime later.

At home36 viewsGetting ready to install the Windows 7 beta on the i7, all of my other machines have it installed for dual/triple boot.
